With the beginning of a new year, thoughts and minds often focus on turning new leaves or creating new resolutions. Similarly, I was thinking about our wonderful Rotary club and what we could do better. And it’s true, we could always do better somewhere. But honestly, each time I think about our club, I think of all the talented hands that keep it running like a well-oiled machine. Although as president there are tasks I must do to prepare for meetings, but there are many tasks about which I do not have to worry. This point is verified at each meeting. We have people assigned to plan the program; email meeting reminders; set-up and tear down the items we need for the day (signs, registration and raffle info, song books, bell, etc.); work registration; work the raffle; introduce students, introduce exchange students; give the invocation; administer fines and collections; lead music; play gathering music; pay the Country Club for our lunches; and keep track of the minutes for each meeting. And I don’t have to worry about any of that. I have heard presidents of other groups complain about their “parental” roles having to remind committee chairs to do their jobs. But that is not the case with our group. We are blessed with members who will step up and take ownership of their assignments. I do not have to remind them or worry about what needs done. And what I listed are assignments for meeting items. Many more members chair many other committees that keep our group running and able to be a blessing to our community.

To all of you currently working or previously worked for a committee or committees, thank you, thank you, thank you! We would be lost without you. To those of you who have not taken the opportunity to work on a committee, please consider it. It would be a win-win for both you and our club. If you don’t know where to start, please talk to any officer or board member and we would be happy to help any way we can. David is in the process of filling his committee roster for 2017-18.

Finally (of course I had to mention this), our new reverse raffle/live and silent auction fund raiser is an area we could use everyone’s help. We will be leaving information sheets at our weekly meetings. But please, if you have an idea for it, please let us know.

Happy New Year!

Rotary Serving Humanity,
Kathryn Cheek, President 2016-17
